The Modern and Chic Suggestion Box

There is hardly an organization today that does not have a wooden box in the office that has a slot in the top and is meant to accept suggestions for anyone willing to take the time to write an idea down on paper. This has been an old standard that we have all come to have mixed feelings about.

We feel a sense of excitement when we contribute to the suggestion box. We think how great it would be if my suggestion comes to be.

Once in a great while, someone from HR stands up at the all hands meeting to announce that the company has implemented compostable cutlery in the cafe and the idea was taken from the suggestion box. The group erupts into song and dance which is quickly built upon by the VP of HR pulling 2 kegs of beer from the closet!

“Also an idea from the suggestion box!” she exclaims.

In this instance one would not be concerned about the source of the idea. It would be nice however if we could fact check the guy at the party that keeps telling everyone that the beer was his idea.

This model has become obsolete. Frankly good riddance, let’s admit it, we have all come to hate putting something in the box to never hear another peep about it, never know if our peers agree with us and never see any action taken.
